The Australian Government has introduced changes to support a stronger, more independent Australian Research Council.
This Australian Government response responds to the Senate Education and Employment Legislation Committee report: Australian Research Council Amendment (Ensuring Research Independence) Bill 2018.
The Committee’s report was tabled in March 2022 and the Government has noted all recommendations.

Emissions Reduction Plan
The Department is responsible for managing and implementing emissions reduction initiatives in the Australian Government's Net Zero in Government Operations Strategy. The Emissions Reduction Plan sets out our pathway to contribute to the achievement of the APS Net Zero 2030 target through emissions reduction activities. The plan encompasses our existing and new priorities and actions to reduce emissions.

2024–25 Corporate Plan – Department of Education
The Corporate Plan is the Department of Education’s primary planning document. It sets out how the department will deliver on its purpose, to create a better future for all Australians through education.
The plan details the department’s operating environment, enterprise-wide risks and our stakeholders. It also outlines how we will measure our performance, and the strategies we will employ to achieve our purpose for the 2024-28 forward years.
Education in Remote and Complex Environments
The response to the Committee’s recommendations was coordinated by the Department of Education, in consultation with Government agencies. The Government recognises that working with states and territories and the non-government education sector is key to implementing effective and holistic policy improvements to the education of students in remote and complex environments. The Government acknowledges work is continuing across all sectors to address the unique challenges facing these students.
