The response to the Committee’s recommendations was coordinated by the Department of Education, in consultation with Government agencies. The Government recognises that working with states and territories and the non-government education sector is key to implementing effective and holistic policy improvements to the education of students in remote and complex environments. The Government acknowledges work is continuing across all sectors to address the unique challenges facing these students.

As the report was tabled over 3 years ago, many of the issues raised by stakeholders have evolved. The subsequent establishment of the Regional Education Commissioner in December 2021 and the release of two of her annual reports has resulted in a significant change to the context within which the inquiry took place.
