About the pilot
In May 2021, the Australian Government announced the Better Child Care Regulation Measure. A key part of the measure is the Piloting Joint Monitoring and Data Sharing Project (the pilot).
The pilot will take place from January 2022 through to June 2023. It is designed to deliver a range of benefits for the early childhood education and care sector.
Reduced regulatory burden
The pilot will explore ways we can reduce the cost of regulation for the child care providers who comply with their obligations.
Financial benefits
Ensuring Child Care Subsidy is administered correctly ensures government investment in the sector is not wasted.
Administrative efficiencies for government
Efficient data, resource and intelligence sharing will reduce administrative burden on government and regulators.
More enforcement outcomes
Better sharing of compliance and monitoring activity will lead to more providers who cheat the system being caught.
Pilot outcomes
The pilot will be evaluated in early 2023. Based on learnings from the pilot, we will recommend ongoing compliance activities as part of the 2023–24 Federal Budget.
How to report suspected fraud
You can report anonymously, and we take all accounts of suspected fraud seriously.
If you do see something, tell us by calling 1800 664 231 Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm (AEDT). You can also send an email to tipoffline@education.gov.au anytime.
When you report suspected fraud, tell us:
- date and time of the suspected incident
- names of people involved
- name of the child care service and provider
- a description of what you have observed – be as detailed as possible.
