In October 2023, China's National People's Congress passed the Patriotic Education Law, which took effect on 1 January 2024. While named the Patriotic Education Law, the law primarily focuses not on formal education but rather on instilling patriotic education into various aspects of daily life, spanning from the classroom to the workplace.

Note on India’s Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration Phase III
At the 6 November meeting of the Australia India Education and Skills Council, the Indian Minister of Education announced dedicated funding as part of India’s Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC) for joint Australia-India research projects. India’s Ministry of Education is currently Calling for Proposals for this funding. Proposals must be submitted online through the SPARC website. The Call for Proposals will close on 15 February 2024.
Changes to China's continuing education
In 2022, China initiated reform of its continuing education sector intended to align it with the evolving needs of the workforce, as well as strengthening the regulatory framework and supervision of the sector. However, while digital transformation is high on the agenda, programs that are delivered entirely online may not be able to continue going forward.
Returned graduates eligible for special civil service recruitment pathway
In recent years, some Chinese provincial-level governments including Beijing and Shanghai have announced that Chinese students who have recently graduated from overseas higher education institutions are eligible for civil service positions through a provincial Selected and Assigned Graduates pathway. Previously this pathway was open only to graduates from Chinese universities.

China's Hukou system and impact on study abroad
The Household Registration system, often referred to as the "hukou system" is a residence registration system for mainland Chinese citizens. Hukou registration is administered by a city or municipality and the location of a person's hukou determines their access to social services including health/medical services as well as impacting on a student's access to education.
Changes to the JSJ website - China's official portal for international education affairs supervision and management
The Chinese Ministry of Education confirmed that is has ceased to provide the list of overseas higher education institutions on its official portal for international education affairs supervision and management - the "JSJ website" from December 2022. While the JSJ website no longer contains the institution list, it remains a valuable resource for accessing up-to-date information on the approval of Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in running Schools (CFCRS) projects, regulatory documents and announcements.
