Elevating the profession
The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.
Strongly disagree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
The reason the public have less respect for teachers is because they do not know how to teach children to read, spell, write or compute well.
This is because of their ITE and Education Departments not providing scientific evidence based knowledge of best teaching practice in ITE and state Curriculum.
Continued promotion of non evidence based teaching ideologies that are ineffective, is contributing to lack of respect for teaching.
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Two main problems
1. Remove most non teaching bureaucratic tasks from classroom teachers.
They chose to do teaching not bureaucratic work. Use education Department staff to do the clerical work.
2. Bring ITE and Primary Curriculum up to date with scientific evidence based best teaching practice including Systematic Synthetic Phonics and not de-bunked Balanced Literacy with non evidence based phonics.
This will reduce illiteracy to 5% or 0 within 3 years, which will address the high illiteracy rates that cause problems in schools and stress for teachers from F-Year 12.
Address these two problems and over a few years, the problems will resolve.
Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

ITE must drop ideologies and teach pre teachers scientific evidence based best teaching practice.

Teachers need to write up a curriculum relevant to their students at the beginning of the year ( eg high socio economic students and low socio economic students will vary with their curriculum needs)
Then write up a weekly work program for the next week to meet their students current learning.
Tend to only essential bureaucratic tasks, kept minimal.
