Elevating the profession

The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Somewhat agree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

I think that they are a step in the right direction . But I believe we are trying to repair a gaping hole with a Band-Aid

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Strongly disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

It’s like you are throwing students at a profession without , support , professional learning or mentoring and expecting them to “ stick “.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

Strongly disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

I have worked with pre-service students . Lecturer , pre-service and teacher currently teaching . One year then no funding was available and I was asked to work for no money and lose a day’s pay . Great idea - but no funding or support … does this sound familiar ?

Maximising the time to teach

The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Strongly disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

You need leadership , experience , structure and funding . Just paying lip service and making 1st year teachers work as experienced leaders will not work !

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?

Not effective at all

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

The system is fractured - money , APT or words mean nothing . Support , structure , leading teachers , professional development have been overlooked .

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

Strongly disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Better career paths - I laugh.
At my school a first year teacher is managing prep transition , a second year teacher is leading grade 6 transition and a pre- service teacher in her final year is working as a CRT for NOTHING . No CRTs and the lure of a position in 2023 - shame on you !
