The governments (state and federal) need to recognise the worth of teachers already in the profession and (particularly in Victoria) make the application and ongoing employment process more amenable.
Further, the employment of CRT’s needs to be centralised so that relief teachers are employed by the department of education, with equal pay and opportunities to full time classroom teachers, providing access to departmental professional development, pro rata leave entitlements as well as department intra networks and email. Not to mention pay rates commensurate with individual experience and qualifications.
Early childhood teachers need to be better recognised as teaching professionals, with equal pay, and rights and responsibilities as their peers - a four year teaching degree is a four year teaching degree. Early childhood education needs to be re absorbed by the department of education.
