The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Early childhood teachers study and are trained the same way as school teacher. Which means we are equally qualified. However, our pay is lower is makes us feel less valuable. We also work longer hours and do manual labour. Therefore, I believe we should be paid equally to primary school teachers.
I am early childhood and primary qualified. However, I have chosen early childhood as this is the most valuable period of a child’s development, preparing them for school and life. 90% of the child develops at this ages. Therefore, again, we must be paid the same as school teachers.
Many people do post graduate diplomas to get into teaching and then leave the industry once they have their permanent residency. However, there are also more qualified teacher who want to remain in the industry and have invested more in their qualification. Therefore, I believe the pay grade should go up for those who are undergraduate qualified and more to masters qualified teachers as per other industries. This will lessen people leaving once their residency come through.
Early childhood teachers should also get a paid Christmas break as we work through the year.
We should also get additional sick leave as the industry brings many virus and illnesses.

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession
The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.
