ITE must include the education of all undergraduates in the science of reading. Placing the responsibility on schools to find the money to have teachers trained in Structured Synthetic Phonics is quite frankly a dereliction of duty by universities. Research and results have proven over and over again that the only way to meet the needs of all students in learning to read is SSP and preferably by EDI. I feel personally let down by my own institution and quite frankly would demand a refund if it were possible. It’s not good enough that my principal had to spend thousands educating me after I graduated before I could understand what I needed to do to help students learn to read. It is the foundation of nearly all initial learning.
Maximising the time to teach
