Teachers are time poor and under paid for the hours they work. A solution would be to reduce the workload by implementing a maximum of 4 lines to high school teachers (and the equivelant for primary) so that they have more time to deal with administrative tasks.
The teacher shortage could be reduced if people studying teaching had their HECS debts etc. waived. This should be extended all teachers who still have student loans. This would also be a sign of appreciation for the profession.
On a side note, student loans should not be indexed with inflation. No student loans should be increasing, they should be set at the fee they were when they were accrued.
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.
