There are many temp teachers out in the workforce trying to gain full time employment. When the school has an opening it often goes to ‘targeted grad students’ as I believe it is less paperwork, however those temp teachers who have been at the school are still not guaranteed and are fighting for jobs every year with uncertainty.
This is not a viable or sustainable way of living especially with rent, interest rates and cost of living growing. Many teachers are leaving the work place because it is to hard to gain a permanent position or we continue to watch available positions go to the targeted grad students.
TEMP TEACHERS BECOMING PERMANENT WILL BE THE CHANGE TO KEEP TEACHERS IN THE PROFESSION.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

See previous answer.

Temp teachers need permanency for life stability.
More teachers especially those older that 27 will stay in the profession because it is to hard and unpredictable to continue being a temp unless it is a choice.

Maximising the time to teach

The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Somewhat agree

Teachers don’t have time to teach anymore. I agree schools have plans to implement to improve programs and teaching and overall quality but a lot of the time schools focus on to much. Reports are heavily weighted and time consuming with most parents just wanting to know an overall idea of if there child is working below, at or above expectations. Most parents find it to overwhelming read every specific descriptor and where to next comments. Most say the where to next is up to the teacher it’s our job.
As teachers we mark, program, evaluate, teach. Then we have be social mediators, doctors, and parents have to much access to us and feel entitled to demand our time for trivial things. Then add PL’s, staff meetings and school improvements just one focus at a time would be more beneficial a WIG.

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?

Moderately effective

Make Temp teachers permanent to create stability in their lives. Temp teachers have usually been in the job longer and have experience in a classroom. When Temp teachers apply for jobs they are usually one of 70 other applicants. I have seen older teachers get frustrated as they are still Temp and a hound targeted grad who looks good on paper and interviews well don’t have the experience in a classroom but become permanent right away.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.
