Lantite test should be removed, it does not measure an individuals ability to teach. Many student teachers are still paying HECS fees and can’t receive their degree because they haven’t met the standard for lantite. This is impacting our teaching shortage. The lantite test has different tests with different levels of difficulty each time and works off luck. There is still no data that proves lantite is working. Many student teachers with the perfect teaching qualities are being refused to teach because of one test. Lantite never existed before 2016, and there are thousands of teachers who currently teach without lantite. This test is unnecessary as student teachers already complete relevant assignments and placement during their course. It is ridiculous that if you’re studying primary school teaching, you are required to do a test that is late high school level. The entire point of going to university is to obtain a degree which allows you to work in the field you studied. However in the current teaching degree, it is set up for failure and leads into a meaningless course, hecs fees, no degree and unemployed. This is adding to our teaching shortage unfortunately. If we had a test for every job, we would have shortages in every field.
