Elevating the profession
The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
The actions need to elevate the requirements of entry into university education degrees, ie require a higher ATAR score to enter the course at university. The universities need to "sell" education as a great career. Governments and Education Departments need to hold teachers in higher esteem and stop adding to their workload, without providing proper support.
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Then stop asking more of teachers. The curriculum is crowded and more just keeps getting added. Then there are the "things" that we get asked to do outside of teaching that just adds more to our workload and pressure to achieve.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession
The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

Teachers should be able to achieve these accreditations with out having to "jump through a myriad of hoops." The proof is in the doing and teaching, not how well they can put together their dissertations. Creating the applications takes away from their teaching, preparation and families for very little reward.
