Initial Teacher education needs to be focussed on real world scenarios - not the dream or ideal world the universities provide. The universities are providing education to teachers that is not current with the standards/pedagogy in the classroom today. Providing some real world situations and ideas will better prepare the ITE teachers coming into the profession - not teachers who live in an ideal world and want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Teaching is hard - but so rewarding and that needs to be taught.
I had a prac student this year - who quit after 1 week because the workload was not what was expected - they were required to plan and teach 2 lessons a day.

This needs to happen. I spend most of my teaching time not teaching.
Students in lower primary come to school lacking social skills - as they have been taught how to write in early childhood day cares etc. but not the social skills to be a functioning student.
I teach how to share, play kindly, speak kindly, sit - all skills they should come to school with. In an already crowded curriculum this is an unnecessary burden.

This is essential. Teachers require incentives to stay. The best classroom teachers are poached for leadership roles - Principal/Deputy and can no longer assist and support the upcoming teachers. There needs to be further pathways to retain brilliant teachers in the classroom or provide opportunities for them to mentor others.
