Elevating the profession

The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Strongly disagree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Somewhat agree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Support needs to be provided for experienced staff already in the system. While we will need new teachers to replace retiring staff, it is no good having a large number of early career teachers with few experienced teachers to help mentor and guide early career teachers.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

Strongly agree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Yes, teaching courses need to be more prac based - there was too much on the job learning for me when teaching is already a busy enough profession. Early career teacher need to have more support and guidance.

Maximising the time to teach

The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Strongly agree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Yes, we need time to teach content but we also need time to plan and collaborate. There is never enough time in the school week to do any of this.

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?

Moderately effective

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Hopefully by supporting teachers better more effective workforce planning can be done, however, this relies on putting the other proposed strategies into place.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

Somewhat agree

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

As an experienced teacher, I have no where to progress unless I become a school leader. However, I still have responsibility within the school that are not supported by any time or money. Providing more incentives for staff will encourage some staff to stay in the system.
