Improving teacher supply

I don't believe these proposal do enough to encourage people to enter the ITE or to stay on as a teacher. The fact is there is more disabilities and behaviour within schools and not enough training to allow new teacher to be able to cope with these demands as well as the workload that is continually increasing. Everything that has been proposed is a great starting point but does not go far enough considering the dire shortages of teachers.

Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)

The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

Maximising the time to teach

One of the main issues teacher face is the fact they can know longer just focus on teaching due to the demands outside of the classroom. Which range from meeting (parent, Staff and anything other meeting we have), paperwork, programming and resource making or getting. The fact is with so much to do outside of teaching the class it become almost impossible to to give the class your teaching the attention and focus it needs. Teacher need to be given programs and resources so we can go back to focusing on teaching class and dealing with behaviours. I know many teacher will not agree with that but the quality of teaching has decrease due to demands outside of the classroom.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

Somewhat disagree

I think the whole accreditation system needs a overhaul and streamlined so that teacher can focus on teaching and not moving to the next level of teaching by completing portfolios or accreditation processes. This should be done by years of experience and dedication to the profession not another workload that takes away from actually learning to teach and being able produce quality learning programs. The first 5 years of teaching are so important it's where you learn the most and should be taking everything in and learning as much as your can from your peers and professional learning and not having to worry about moving to the next level of teaching through a portfolio or whatever it may be.
