Behaviour and safety while teaching is a big concern that is not dealt with (explicitly) here.

Recognise teachers who take further education monetarily. There is no incentive to take further education and I have known teachers who chose not to because of the cost, with no monetary benefit at the end. According to research, further education in the form of a Masters or diploma is beneficial to students.

Also, consider fair funding for all schools. The regional school I teach at cannot even be compared to schools in Southeast Queensland for things such as equipment, infrastructure and after school programming to name a few things.

Treat teachers in regional, remote and rural areas equally. We hear of services that our counterparts in SE Queensland get that we are not entitled to. One example is the Fitness Passport.

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Administration must value the idea of release time. Too often (even pre-COVID), release time is changed (to be caught up later). While it is understood that this will happen occasionally, it should be recognised that planned time for release is always more productive than time given moments before it happens.

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

Pay teachers more who undertake a Masters or diploma. This is one of the biggest reasons I will soon be leaving the profession.
