Suggestion to adding some extra points to the ninth action plan (9. Prioritise visa processing for qualified teachers and prioritise teachers from State and Territory nominated visa allocations.) -

Suggestion: Please ensure regulatory processes do not present unnecessary barriers to the International teacher (completed 2 years ITE program in Australian University) to continue their job and settle in Australia.

As an International teacher, I have finished my ITE (Master of teaching, 2 years) from Australia [REDACTED]. I have been working in regional and remote Queensland with my temporary visa. When I approach my permanent visa to stay and work here, AITSL is taking us to prove our English language proficiency by taking the IELTS exam with high band expectations.

As an International student doing ITE from Australian University, I have proved my English proficiency by taking IELTS before entering Uni, by doing practicum for 100 hours during the uni and by taking LATITE to complete the uni. However, AITSL still asked me to write the IELTS exam with high bands for my skill assessment. It's unfair and a waste of money & energy.

Many international teachers like me have proven their English proficiency on many occasions during our studies and work in Australia. Still, adding unnecessary steps to get migration skill assessment from AITSL is unfair because of the hefty fee and unnecessary pressure. This English language barrier is only for the students who finished their 2 years ITE program in Australia, but not for 4 years ITE program completed students.

Kindly ask you to create and regulate new policies for International teachers who finished their ITE studies (2 Years master) in Australia, which will help many International teachers who are properly trained and ready to work in Australian schools. Please add this point to action plan 9.
