Elevating the profession

Unless the pay and conditions are improved, then potential undergraduates will choose other careers.

The status of teaching has been consistently undermined by the media and education bureaucracies. Young people see this and choose other paths that pay way and more attractive with higher perceived status.

We need smaller classes or lighter teaching loads, this is going to cost money.

I have been on the top rung of the salary scale for 15 years. There is no incentive to keep on improving my teaching practice.

The HALT status is a joke as very few people do it, it costs $500 to undergo, it has to be re-done every five years. After tax it equates to an extra $20 a day. I make far more being a retained or on-call firefighter.

The bureaucracy is top heavy and useless. We never see of hear from them unless they are trying to foist another 'initiative' on us the is unfunded and they expect us to work harder for no extra pay. This is why we refuse all such initiative as it just another resume polishing exercise by some muppet justifying their existence.

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

A lighter teaching load and smaller classes will allow for more preparation and better feedback to students.

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?

Not effective at all

You have the Census data. The only reason that schools are not keeping up with demand or are overcrowded is because incompetent or spiteful politician intervene or the planning bureaucracy is either incompetent or overruled.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

The HALT process is deeply flawed and not worth the effort. Is destroys collegiality.
