Elevating the profession

The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Maximising the time to teach

The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Time is needed away from the classroom to plan and mark student work. The more you put a teacher in the classroom the more after hours work you give them This will not encourage teachers to stay in the profession. I have been teaching for 35 years. You will not fix the problem unless you listen to real teachers at the coalface and not academics who have never been in a classroom, or have not seen the inside of one for decades.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.

This additional step for teachers will probably result in additional responsibilities and burdens on teachers who receive the accreditation - this will not encourage teachers to stay. Teachers have a HUGE workload. Giving them more will not help them stay in the classroom.
