Elevating the profession

The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

We provide education for all. Politicians, doctors, lawyers all have higher regard and pay! Why? We should by this fact alone be held in higher esteem.

Improving teacher supply

The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?

Stop belittling what we do as teacher in the media. Give praise and encouragement to the amazing teachers that work more than 8 hours a day for 5 hours pay a day. Explain that the school holidays are usually taken up in planning the next lot of content to be covered.

You may have more interest if there is regard and praise instead of belittling and slander towards teachers.

Understand the real world of teaching. It’s changed and the universities are not keeping up. I didn’t learn anything I needed at uni! I learnt it in the classroom with the students. I pity the teachers coming through they are set up to crash and burn in 3 to 5 years.

Until it is no longer just talk.

I am tried, some weeks I am working up to 60 and over hours in 8 different subject areas. I will be the next to leave if something doesn’t change.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.
