New financial reporting obligations for large early childhood education and care providers came into effect on 1 July 2023.
Large providers must now report financial information to the department, including information about revenue, profits, and leasing arrangements.
A large provider is one that:
- operates 25 or more services
- shares operation of 25 or more services with another provider
- plans to operate or share operation of 25 or more services.
The information a large provider must report depends on their circumstances.
Large providers must report within 3 months of the end of the financial reporting period.
If you’re a large provider and you do financial reporting on a financial year, you must report within 3 months of 30 June. If you do your financial reporting on a calendar year, you must report within 3 months of 31 December.
We’ve contacted large providers with more information. Large providers that haven’t been contacted should email ECECFinancialViability@education.gov.au
This information will help us:
- assess the financial viability of large providers
- improve the transparency of child care costs
- protect the government’s investment in the sector.
