Elevating the profession
The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.
Strongly disagree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Instead of trying to attract so called “high achieving” graduates to the profession, the time, effort and money would be better spent on supporting and resourcing those already within the profession.
This idea has been tried in multiple guises over the years and failed every time.
The issue is not the quality of teachers or even teacher training, it is the bureaucracy and overwhelming useless administration loaded onto current professionals which takes away from there core role of teaching.
The countless hours spent resolving social issues, assisting students (and their families) without adequate support from psychologists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and other para professionals. The endless pointless meetings and the lack of support from administrators to reduce the load.
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

Most states do not encourage or promote these accreditations - time would be better spent on gaining easy mutual recognition between states, more permanent (rather than 1 year fixed term contract) positions which would allow teachers to gain some job security, rather than having to constantly reapply for their own positions.
AITSL standards are irrelevant to most of the country, because they do not impact on salary structure or provide any meaningful support to teachers want to improve their practice.
