Elevating the profession
The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Uplifting the profession must mean that politicians and commentators need to stop using education as a battleground for political ideology, and the profession therefore as a football for crass political purpose.
Performance pay will not work - it is a system ripe for exploitation, both through nepotism, and by teachers playing the game.
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.

Increased pay and reduced administrative tasks are a must. A majority of the paper work I complete as a teacher is done to go in a filing cabinet somewhere.
Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

More prac time in classrooms is important. So is teaching the actual curriculum content so that new teachers have the knowledge to carry out their jobs.
Maximising the time to teach
The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.

Teaching time is vital, the administrative and bureaucratic work that goes with it, the continual professional developments that are too often repetitious, and the meetings that could be emails take away time from the classroom and my time getting stuff ready for the classroom.
