I feel tokenism is problematic especially when subjective. Rewards for whole teaching groups/schools rather than individuals.

The biggest issues are the lack of further opportunities for experimented middle leaders and teachers. I have moved from private sector, with almost 20 year’s experience working in public and then private into a learning specialist role and all I am offered by the Victorian Academy is the Teaching Excellence program which is for people with 5 years. I have taken a pay cut and lost many benefits but taken this role as it’s unique. However I do feel that if I wasn’t in the fortunate financial position (single person, no children) it would be hard to recruit. This is where you will be losing staff.

I would suggest that the state DET should offer excellent teachers opportunities to undertake research, work at delivering PDs in their schools and regions etc. We love the classroom so try to stay in there as long as possible but too often the choice is either stagnate or take an AP role and lose that connection.

Improving teacher supply

Again need to really look at how you allow the skills of those teachers with excellent teaching practice as LS or LT roles opportunities to grow within that role. Seems very little choices for people at the moment.
