Education professionals ie teachers have worked hard through their unions to be given DOTT (duties other than teaching) and to increase the amount of time. Unfortunately government interference means that a chunk of that time is taken up with meetings: parent, in school, out of school professionals etc. The departments have fought to cut this time and take it from teachers and control it. This once again means that teachers have to find that taken time in their own personal time.
In class expectations such as individual education plans also take up much of a teacher's time, time that caould be used to prepare and therefore deliver quality teaching. Data collection is another example. One more assessment which takes for ever to mark. Assessment after assessment with no teaching time in between.
We are constantly reporting. The what I call John Howard reports are an exercise in repetition. The process is so cumbersome with expectation that reports are read by two or three people before being sent out and the ditting is so heavy. we start writing these reports in week one or two of term two and four to be due in week six or seven to besent out in week ten. Why do we need such wordy and time consuming reports.

To achieve any step is a massive time consuming effort for little reward. However why is it necessary to identify teachers as being outstanding or highly accomplished? How does differentiating the workforce improve the conditions?
