Teachers aren’t given adequate time to teach or prepare to teach. DOTT is usually internal relief or replying to emails or entering data. Insufficient time to prepare materials for woodwork or metalwork for example. Investigation needs to occur in different learning areas of the school. Different needs for each learning area. Home Ec and Science have assistants/technicians in all schools Yet design and Technology teachers are expected to cut a range of materials on machines, maintain tools and machines, order materials, OHS and general housekeeping of areas. It’s a large workload

Better understanding future teacher workforce needs

How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?

Very effective

Classes sizes need to reduce to cater for differentiated learning. This would improve engagement, behaviour and success. It’s impossible to help everyone in an hour.
Teachers are expected to enter attendance, check attendance during a lesson, ring student services for at risk students who have not come to class whilst being expected to start a lesson. If it’s a practical lesson, that needs a demonstration to commence, students are waiting around and not engaged. Then there’s behaviour issues with not enough support.

Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession

The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.
