I wish to express feedback in relation to initial assessment of a teaching degree (LANTITE). I believe Professor Mark Scott and a panel of experts will be considering amendments to the Accreditation Standards to specify where in a program a student should sit the LANTITE.

This is great news, that prospective students will be eligible to sit the test prior to commencing their studies from 2023. But..... what about the university students (myself)? I have sucessfully completed Year 12, passed an equivalent numeracy test (Year 12) to enrol into a teaching university degree (yes I am not a spring chicken), spent endless hours on university assignments and received many HD marks, congratulated on my efforts in pracs, university targeted support to focus on the numeracy component, fantastic results on a range of practice tests, reasonable adjustments provided, 1:1, small group and endless about of money to get to this point in my degree.

Now, this may shock you, but I cannot for the life of me pass the 'actual' numeracy component of the test. I don't what it is and why... All I can put it down too is anxiety. All I want to do is teach. I always go over and beyond my efforts and this so called 'test' is breaking my confidence. I can't fathom how this 'one test' is the be all or end all of this degree. You have exams for other professions like nursing etc, why don't you implement something similar built into the degree and not a high stakes test?

I understand where you are coming from and you are trying to make it fair and create more certainty for students, but that is ONLY for new prospective student enrolments. You ALSO need to look after the ones you have in the university system already. Like I said, I want this so bad. I think I like many other pre-service teachers will make wonderful teachers, but you just need to consider it ALL.

Everyone has a story to tell and I don't know what it's going to take, but something needs to happen and FAST. So it is fair across the board for EVERYONE, including the ones who are at university studying teaching already. Thank you
