I am an overseas teacher with major in Mathematics, teaching secondary Mathematics in NSW since February 2020. I came to Australia on a student visa, completed Master of Education (Educational Leadership), got my qualifications assessed by NESA and met the English language requirements.
However my application for AITSL was not successful, stating I did not meet the requirements for supervised teaching practice. I had inquired with the department about mid career pathway program to attract more teachers, but couldn't apply as I was not a permanent resident.
My temporary graduate visa ends coming October. Considering my experience in Australian schools and the fact that my major is Mathematics I am hopefully looking forward to the International Teacher Retention program that will allow teachers like me to live and work in this magnificent country.
