As a double masters degree qualified educator - I left the classroom over 10 years ago after 30 years of secondary teaching and school leadership.
My reason for leaving was the impossible level of entitlement being displayed by students and the unrealistic expectations of parents.
Until teachers can feel valued by the students in their classrooms - and until there are mechanisms to stop the minority of students from undermining the educational environment - and until there is a realisation by government that classroom teachers cannot reasonably build relationships with students AND manage 20 plus individual learning plans AND control intentional student-led sabotage, I predict a continuing pattern of highly qualified and experienced teachers leaving the classroom ... thus continuing the teacher shortage.
Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
