I am writing this feedback to address the problem of International teachers who have completed their ITE (2 years Master of teaching) from Australian Universities.
Suggestion: Please ensure regulatory processes do not present unnecessary barriers to the International teacher (completed 2 years ITE program in Australian University) to continue their job and settle in Australia.
I have graduated my Masters of teaching secondary from Australia and have been teaching in a hard to staff school in WA. However, when I needed to get my PR, the IELTS score is acting as a barrier for my dream.
When I completed my Masters as an international student, I have proved my English proficiency before starting the University and also during the University studies by completing my 100hrs of supervised teaching and by completing LANTITE. I also scored a n IELTS score of 9 in Reading and Listening, 7 in Writing but not 8 in speaking. However, AITSL still wants me to write the test again, if I need a positive skill assessment. This is not only stressful but it’s a waste of time and energy.
We have proved our efficiency in teaching by working in an Australian teaching position for more than a year. Still enforcing the unwanted barrier of IELTS is not justifying.
Kindly ask you to create and regulate new policies for International teachers who finished their ITE studies (2 Years master) in Australia, which will help many International teachers who are properly trained and ready to work in Australian schools. Please add this point to action plan 9
