Elevating the profession
The actions proposed recognise the value teachers bring to students, communities and the economy.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Unless teachers are seen as intelligent and highly trained professionals, the view of the public will not change.
Improving teacher supply
The actions proposed will be effective in increasing the number of students entering ITE, number of students completing ITE and the number of teachers staying in and/or returning to the profession.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
Student’s poor behaviour in some schools is a major disincentive for teachers to stay in the profession.
Having well developed professional progress points if teachers wish to stay in the classroom should be clear.
Strengthening Initial Teacher Education (ITE)
The actions proposed will ensure initial teacher education supports teacher supply and quality.

Student teachers need to be aware of what working in schools is really like. University teacher training can be far removed from the realities of teaching. Some support for student teachers economically whilst on placements would help a proportion to consider training as an option.
There is a significant number of student teachers who enter their courses who are patently unsuitable to teach.
Maximising the time to teach
The actions proposed will improve retention and free up teachers to focus on teaching and collaboration.
Neither agree nor disagree

Packaged resources are often not taken up by experienced or innovative teachers and can lead to ‘lazy’ teaching.
Resource banks that can be adapted are an option.
There are a number of excellent resources that already exist but need to be taken up by a whole school and which may be outside the budget.
Better understanding future teacher workforce needs
How effective are the proposed actions in better understanding future teacher workforce needs, including the number of teachers required?
Moderately effective

Financial support during rounds.
Raising the standing and income ceiling for teachers is another.
Better career pathways to support and retain teachers in the profession
The proposed actions will improve career pathways, including through streamlining the process for Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher (HALT) accreditation, and providing better professional support for teachers to retain them in the profession.
Somewhat agree
Would you like to provide feedback about these actions?
HALT should be able to use their current practises for appraisal and accreditation.
