On 28 August 2019, the establishment of a University Foreign Interference Taskforce (UFIT) was announced to provide better protection for universities against foreign interference.
The UFIT brings together the university sector and Australian Government agencies to collaboratively support and build an environment of trust and resilience, and to guide a university’s decision-making based on proportionate risks, so Australian universities can continue to produce world-class research.
The UFIT Steering Group acts as the primary conduit for all university and Government counter foreign interference related activities.
The UFIT Steering Group, and associated working groups, has led the development of the enduring set of specific and measurable leading practice framework – the Guidelines to counter foreign interference in the Australian university sector (the Guidelines).
