A payment to help students with the cost of moving from regional or remote areas for tertiary study.
Did you or someone you know complete Year 12 in 2022? Eligible school leavers from regional or remote Australia who plan to relocate for tertiary study (Cert IV and above) can apply now for the Tertiary Access Payment (TAP).
The TAP is a one-off payment of up to $5,000 to help eligible students with the costs of relocating to study. Moving away from home to study can be expensive. The TAP can help students to pay for items such as rent, travel expenses, food, or study supplies.
The TAP helped Australian National University student James to relocate for his studies, which he says was a big weight off his shoulders as he wouldn’t have been able to cover the costs himself.
“The idea of being able to get $5,000 – a lot of money – just for coming from where I came from seemed too good to be true, but somehow it wasn’t,” said James.
“Costs which you don’t even think about such as rent, travel – which is inherently more difficult when you’re coming from a rural area.”
