The Australian Government supports safe learning environments for all students – regardless of their background, and recognises the importance of equipping young Australians to live in a diverse world, including through the Intercultural and Ethical Understanding General Capabilities in the Australian Curriculum.

Explicit education delivered to young people is key to building individual capacity and challenging the personal and cultural attitudes that lead to intolerance. These initiatives are focused on teaching young people to value diversity and develop interfaith understanding. They will also equip them with skills and strategies to address intolerance when they experience it, or when they see it happening to others.
Holocaust Education - Anti-Defamation Commission
The Australian Government is providing $3 million over 2020-21 to 2023-24 for the Anti-Defamation Commission (ADC) to create a Holocaust education platform to improve access to education about the Holocaust and to foster tolerance, inclusiveness and respect for diversity in students and their school communities. It will include a digital national network of certified Holocaust educators to support Australian teachers to roll out the program in classrooms and connect with schools involved across the nation.
Islamic Museum of Australia
The Australian Government is providing $3 million over 2020-21 to 2023-24 for the Islamic Museum of Australia for the development of online education programs to enhance cross-cultural understanding. The funding will support an upgrade to the Islamic Museum of Australia’s online capabilities to service all Australian schools. This will include virtual tours, 3D videos and upgrade of galleries to a digital platform and educational resources for students as well as on site gallery upgrades and a new multipurpose classroom.
