Key points
- In the year-to-date September 2024, there were 1,018,799 international student enrolments, a 16 per cent increase in enrolments on the same period in 2019 (before the COVID-19 pandemic).
- Year-to-date September commencements (495,469) are the highest on record and 14 per cent higher than in year-to-date September 2019 (433,277).
- Fifty-five per cent of international students were from the following five student source countries: China (22% of international students), India (16%), Nepal (8%), Philippines (5%) and Vietnam (4%).
- Growth in enrolments since 2019 is highest in the VET sector (42 per cent).
- Enrolments in Higher Education are 13 per cent above 2019 levels.
- Enrolments in ELICOS drop by 1 per cent on 2019.
- Enrolments in Schools and Non-award have declined by 23 and 24 per cent respectively on 2019 levels.
