Following the first set of free ‘Engaged Classrooms’ resources released in December 2023, additional resources have been released to support school leaders create safe and supportive learning environments for all students. The free resources have been developed by the Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) in consultation with teachers and classroom management expert Dr Tim McDonald.

More than 70 per cent of principals report working with teachers on classroom discipline problems at least once a week. They also report more frequently spending time on discipline problems than other leadership issues.

Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP said:

“By providing these resources to principals and school leaders we can help them to set clear expectations around behaviour across the whole school, which is good for teachers and good for their students.

“When students are fully engaged in the classroom, they learn at their best and teachers have more time to teach.

“The resources released today build on those already available to teachers, and they will help to further limit classroom disruptions, which is good for teachers and good for students.”

This second set of resources, specifically developed for school leaders, contains:

  • A facilitation guide - ‘A whole-school approach to classroom management’
  • ‘Evidence-based approaches for effective classroom management’ slide deck
  • ‘Our whole school approach to classroom management’ slide deck.

School leaders can find out more and access the resources on AERO’s website.
