The Country Universities Centre Mallee has officially opened in Swan Hill, Victoria.

The new centre is funded through the Australian Government’s Regional University Study Hubs program.

Regional University Study Hubs help students in regional and remote areas access tertiary education without having to leave their community. They provide students with study spaces, IT, and internet access, as well as wrap around support, including administrative, academic skills and wellbeing.

Approximately 80 students are currently registered with the new hub to undertake a range of courses through universities including Charles Sturt, La Trobe, Deakin and Swinburne.

Minister Clare wants more young people to have access to tertiary education.

The evidence is that where University Study Hubs are, university participation goes up and that’s why we’re doubling them right across the country.

Bringing university closer to where you live will encourage more people who otherwise might decide not to go to university at all to give it a crack,” Minister Clare said.

In 2023, the network of Regional University Study Hubs supported nearly 4000 students studying more than 1000 different courses across more than 200 tertiary education providers.

Country Universities Centre Mallee is one of 34 hubs currently operating across Australia and is the fourth Regional University Study Hub to open in regional Victoria. They will be joined by another 12 hubs across Australia this year.
