Have your say on research infrastructure investment

Have your say on research infrastructure newsroom banner

Long term investment in Australia’s research infrastructure has produced a strong, stable and adaptable system that allows Australian researchers to continually produce world-class research.

The department has opened consultation to help inform future investments in Australia’s research infrastructure. Key areas include:

  • Translation research infrastructure – to support the translation of fundamental research into real-world benefits such as commercial products, improved decision making and improved societal outcomes.
  • Environment and climate research infrastructure – to support land, ocean and atmospheric observation to provide the data to underpin climate and environment mitigation and adaptation efforts.
  • The research infrastructure workforce – to ensure a highly skilled workforce that can support both the equipment and the researchers that use it.

Feedback from this consultation will support the development of investment plans, funded by the $4 billion National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS). NCRIS provides Australian researchers with access to the tools, equipment, data, services and expertise they need to produce leading-edge research and innovation.

If you’re a researcher, research organisation, or you provide research infrastructure, we encourage you to provide feedback.

Consultation on the draft investment plans will take place prior to the release of the final versions.

Submissions close on 28 March 2025. For more on the consultations, visit 2025 step-change needs and investment surveys.
