Twenty-one research projects have been awarded funding under Tranche One of Australia’s Economic Accelerator (AEA) Seed Grants.
More than $4.5 million will support 10 projects in medical science and 11 projects on renewables and low emission technologies.
Department of Education Acting First Assistant Secretary of the Research Division Dr Anthony Millgate said that the ambitious program is investing in research translation and commercialisation in the seven priority areas under the National Reconstruction Fund.
These priorities are designed to drive investment in key sectors, focusing on value adding and capability development to leverage Australia’s natural and competitive strengths, Dr Millgate said.
This investment is placing university innovation and industry collaboration front and centre of Australia’s economic recovery.
AEA Seed is a pilot program for the stage one proof of scale grants known as AEA Ignite and forms part of the Australian Government’s $1.6 billion investment in AEA.
The program is supporting Australia’s leading entrepreneurial researchers transform world-class research into new industries, services and jobs of tomorrow.
