Priority Area 4, Action 24: Nominate teachers for the Order of Australia

This content was published on Thursday 8 February 2024. There may be more recent updates available.

Congratulations to the teachers and school leaders who have been recognised with an Order of Australia Award in this year’s Australia Day Honours List. The Order of Australia is Australia’s highest honour for outstanding achievement and service.

Teachers show continuous dedication in guiding and supporting children and young people in the classroom every day. If you know an inspiring classroom teacher, we encourage you to nominate them for the Order of Australia. This is an opportunity to celebrate the great achievements of a teacher who is making a difference in the classroom and the community.

To complete a nomination, you need to provide the teacher’s name and contact details, explain why the teacher deserves recognition and include up to four referees. Applications are confidential and can be made at any time.

Encouraging members of the public to nominate teachers for an award in the Order of Australia delivers on Action 24 in the National Teacher Workforce Action Plan.

For information on how to nominate, visit the Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia's website. Nominations are open all year.
