Disability Standards for Education 2005

The Disability Standards for Education 2005 (DSE) clarify the obligations of education and training providers under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA). The DSE seek to ensure that students with disability can access and participate in education on the same basis as students without disability.

The Australian Government has released:

  • Information resources to help students with disability and their caregivers understand their rights under the DSE
  • Information resources for education providers and educators explaining their obligations under the DSE.

Reviews of the Disability Standards for Education 2005

The DSE are reviewed every 5 years to find out how they could be improved. The next review will be in 2025.

Early Childhood consultation 2025

Public consultation is underway on amendments to the Disability Standards for Education 2005.

The proposed amendments will include the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector in the Standards as part of Recommendation 12b from of the 2020 Review.

Public consultation is open from 9am 31 January 2025 and will close on 28 February 2025 at 5pm.
