This consultation has now closed. We will review the submissions to refine the proposed amendments to the Disability Standards for Education 2025.
We appreciate the interest in the consultation and the views and expertise shared, and thank all stakeholders who participated.
We want to make sure Australia’s disability discrimination laws support children with disability in early childhood education and care and outside school hours care services (ECEC).

Background
The 2020 Review of the Standards recommended changing the Standards to include ECEC services. Changing the Standards will make it clearer and easier for ECEC services to understand and meet their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
The ECEC services identified as most suited to be covered by the Standards are the ECEC services that by law must deliver an education program based on an approved learning framework.
Before these changes are made, the department would like to hear from state and territory education stakeholders, early childhood education stakeholders, disability stakeholders and parents and carers.
