The Department of Education is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards).
The Standards explain what education providers must do to support students with disability.
The 2020 Review of the Standards recommended including early childhood education and care (ECEC) services in the Standards. Changing the Standards will make it clearer and easier for ECEC services to understand what they must do to support children with disability under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
We invite interested stakeholders and members of the public to share their views. We particularly would like to hear from stakeholders who engage with the Standards, including state and territory education governments, ECEC providers, disability groups, legal professionals and parents and carers of children with disability.
A consultation paper and FAQs have been developed to support the exposure draft to amend the Standards. The consultation paper provides information on the changes in the exposure draft and we strongly encourage you to refer to this paper and the exposure draft when preparing your feedback. The FAQs include the types of services that will be included in the proposed changes.
