Ten new Regional University Study Hubs announced

RUSH Cohort 5 (Decorative)

Ten new Regional University Study Hubs will open across the country soon, bringing university closer to regional students.

Regional University Study Hubs enable students living in regional and remote Australia to access university and other tertiary study without having to leave their community.

The Hubs provide study spaces, fast internet, computers, and free student support, including academic skills advice.

The 10 new Regional University Study Hubs will be located in:

  • Clermont and Moranbah, Queensland
  • Hughenden, Queensland
  • Hay, New South Wales
  • Tumut, New South Wales
  • Northam, Western Australia
  • Kununurra, Western Australia
  • Hamilton, Victoria
  • Kingscote (Kangaroo Island), South Australia
  • St Helens, Tasmania
  • Burnt Pine, Norfolk Island

Minister for Education, the Hon Jason Clare MP said:

“Today, almost one in two young people in their 20s and their 30s have a university degree. But not everywhere. Not in the outer suburbs and not in regional Australia.

That’s why we are doubling the number of University Study Hubs, to bring university closer to them.

We know they work. The evidence is they increase the number of people getting a uni degree.

Bringing university closer to where you live will encourage more people who otherwise might decide not to go to university at all to give it a crack."

There are currently 43 Regional University Study Hubs open across the country.

The current hubs supported over 5,200 students in 2024, a 32 per cent increase in the past year. The hubs have supported over 15,200 students since the program’s establishment.
