Two Regional University Study Hubs recently held events to celebrate graduating students.
Uni Hub Spencer Gulf in South Australia celebrated 22 graduating students across its two locations, while Taree Universities Campus in New South Wales honoured 45 graduates.
The hubs, which are part of the Australian Government’s Regional University Study Hubs program, support students from regional and remote communities across Australia to gain better access to university, without having to relocate.
They provide students with study spaces, fast internet, printing facilities, computers, and free student support, including general academic skills advice.
As at November 2024, Uni Hub Spencer Gulf was supporting 221 students and has supported a total of 583 students since their establishment in 2019. Taree Universities Campus is supporting 330 students and has supported a total of 651 students since first opening in 2021.
For Uni Hub Spencer Gulf student, Justin, who graduated from Central Queensland University with a Bachelor of Education, said going to university was never part of his plan.
“Uni wasn’t really on my agenda. It was a bit hard to get down there (to Adelaide), especially money wise,” Justin said.
“Uni Hub came up at the right time. They offer fantastic facilities. People there are fantastic – they are always there to support you.
“I would say if you want to study locally this is the ticket.”
For Taree Universities Campus student, Elise, the hub helped her to access university without having to move away.
“As a distance student, having a dedicated study area for university students in Taree has been incredibly beneficial,” Elise said.
There are 56 Regional University Study Hubs located across Australia, with 44 hubs currently open and operating, and 12 hubs to open later in 2025.
Aa at November 2024, over 5,200 students were registered with the hubs, a 32 per cent increase in the past year. The program has supported over 15,200 students since its establishment.
