A greater demand for its services has meant the Country Universities Centre (CUC) Goulburn has moved to larger premises to support its growing number of students.
Country Universities Centre Goulburn is funded through the Australian Government’s Regional University Study Hubs program and provides students with facilities where they can undertake tertiary study without having to leave their community.
Facilities include access to study spaces, fast internet, printing facilities, computers, and free student services, including academic skills advice.
CUC Goulburn is open from 5am to midnight, seven days a week. It currently supports 227 students, with around 1 in 2 students the first in their family to study at university, nearly 75 per cent identifying as female, over 6.5 per cent identifying as having a disability and nearly 5 per cent identifying as First Nations.
Student Lee Karssen, who is studying a Bachelor of Nursing, reflects on his experience studying at CUC Goulburn.
“I am so much more productive when I study at the hub. There are less distractions, and the facilities are A++++,” Lee said.
“I have managed to complete assignments much quicker and produced better quality work.
“It’s so good to have a space here in town to support students. Its existence provides regional students with a local place and base of study, as parent institutions are often far away.”
CUC Goulburn has supported 689 students since its establishment in 2018.
There are currently 46 Regional University Study Hubs located across Australia, of which 41 are currently open and operating. The remaining hubs are expected to be operational by Semester 1, 2025.
In early 2024, almost 4,400 students were being supported by the 33 hubs that were operating, a 29 per cent increase since the same time last year. Since the program’s establishment, 12,836 students have been supported by a Regional University Study Hub.
