Congratulations to the teachers and school leaders who have been recognised with an Order of Australia Award in this year’s Australia Day Honours List. The Order of Australia is Australia’s highest honour for outstanding achievement and service.

Teachers show continuous dedication in guiding and supporting children and young people in the classroom every day. If you know an inspiring classroom teacher, we encourage you to nominate them for the Order of Australia. This is an opportunity to celebrate the great achievements of a teacher who is making a difference in the classroom and the community.

To assist you with deciding on who to nominate, teachers recognised in previous years have:

  • usually been in the classroom for more than 10 years
  • had a broad impact including by helping students in different ways
  • gone above and beyond, been creative and helped to get the best out of students
  • contributed to the broader community.

To complete a nomination, you need to provide the teacher’s name and contact details, explain why the teacher deserves recognition and include up to four referees. Applications are confidential and can be made at any time.

If you have ever wondered what it is like to be a teacher or if you are interested in finding out more about the profession, you’ll find inspiring stories on our website as part of the Be That Teacher Campaign. Information is also available about teaching pathways, opportunities, and support.
