The Youth Steering Committee represents young people from across Australia, providing an important voice and influence on government policy. Meet the members here.

Comprising 15 young people from across Australia, the Youth Steering Committee represents the diversity of the Australian community.

Members come from every state and territory and represent regional, rural, and remote areas, First Nations people, LGBTIQA+ communities, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and people with disability.

Applications for membership were sought throughout September and October last year. We received more than 1,200 from 12- to 25-year-olds across Australia, an indication that young Australians have a significant appetite for engaging in decisions that impact their lives.

The Youth Steering Committee will support the establishment of a new Youth Engagement model, which will provide a mechanism by which young people can engage with and influence government policy. Committee members also provide advice and feedback on government policies and programs that matter most to young Australians.

The committee is supported by the department’s newly established Office for Youth, The Hon Dr Anne Aly MP is Minister for Youth and leads this work.

Members had their first meeting in November and will meet again in Canberra with Minister Aly from 29–31 March.
