Bilateral research engagement is underpinned by the 2018 Memorandum of Cooperation in Education and the 1980 Treaty on Cooperation in Research and Development in Science and Technology. DESE aims to deepen Australians links with Japan’s advanced research infrastructure and research commercialisation in collaboration with other government agencies.  There are several thousand Australian and Japanese co-authored publications each year across a wide range of disciplines, from medicine, astronomy and biochemistry, through to physics, engineering and materials science.
